Jordyn
Artist Biography:
JORDYN ROGOTZKI
Jordyn Jennifer Rogotzki is a young, self-taught artist born in 2002 and raised on the outskirts of Johannesburg near the border of North West and Gauteng. She grew up on a plot in the Crocodile nature reserve where she was surrounded by the African bushveld.
Later she received a Bachelor's degree in Visual communication from the Open Window Institute in Centurion, where she specialised in Photography. During her studies, she discovered and experimented with new printmaking processes that aimed to synergise photography with traditional art mediums whilst working to become well-versed in multiple mediums.
Her mother, Shannon, nurtured and instilled a love for all things wild and untouched and was given the opportunity to learn things about nature that most people didn't know. Being privy to the small intricacies of the wild expanded into Jordyn’s art.
Her work represents the individual's journey through life and self-discovery and the small details that make us who we are. In 2023, she drove solo through South Africa to artistically explore where she fits in and where she belongs in the world. The concept of being lost is a common experience in the journey of life and the thing that individualises us is the labyrinth in which we wander to become found.
In 2024, she relocated to Cape Town to continue her art career.
Her work explores the amalgamation of who she is now and who she wants to be but also aims to create a space for people to discover themselves. Jordyn’s art embraces the liminality of being lost to mould into the acceptance of just being. To reflect our deepest, most intimate selves back at us for the purpose of introspection.
To reconnect with not just the earth but with ourselves.
