Kobus is now based in Pretoria and has been working as a full-time artist since 2007. His work and very distinctive style is created by taking the influences of South African landscape artists Pierneef and Tretchikoff and remoulding them to his own indigenous statement in a contemporary context.
His signature medium is created by applying thin layers of oil paint onto wood. The use of earthy colours and stipple technique shows the influence of Neo-Impressionism, where the use of small dashes of paint refers to pointillism.
" Nothing is worth more than laughter. It is strength to laugh and to abandon oneself, to be light. Tragedy is the most ridiculous thing." by Frida Kahlo.
