Kara is a Free State based artist who graduated with a BA Fine Art Degree from the University of the Free State in 2016. She works in collaboration with her father Stephan, a Foundry artist.
She specialises in glass sculptures, metal sculptures and interactive video installations. Together they design and cast recycled aluminium artworks. The recycled material along with the unique designs often portray concepts regarding the extinction of various species.
Kara’s Honours degree in Psychology helps her to depict subjective human experiences within the sculptures. During her studies, she was awarded The Best Fine Art Student of her year group for three consecutive years and Best Overall Art History Student in 2015.
Kara is currently a Facilitator at the University of the Free State’s Psychology Department along with lecturing at Brisley school of Art. She was previously employed by the University of the Free State alongside working as a Gallery Assistant at the Johannes Stegmann Art Gallery.
